David was born and raised in Imlay City, Michigan, where his athletic abilities were apparent from an early age. He was a standout in football, basketball, and track and field, earning recognition as one of the top athletes in his area. His basketball achievements were particularly notable, as he earned All-State honors during his junior and senior years. His impressive regional playoff performances, including scoring 29 and 38 points in consecutive games, further solidified his status as a top-tier athlete.
After high school, Kircus chose to attend Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Allendale, Michigan, where he continued to excel in football. Under the mentorship of Coach Brian Kelly, he played a pivotal role in helping GVSU win its first National Championship. While at GVSU, he set numerous records, including breaking Jerry Rice’s record for most touchdowns in a season. He scored 35 touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons, cementing his place as one of the top players in NCAA Division II football.
Kircus’s college career invited him to the prestigious Hula Bowl in Hawaii, where his stellar performance earned him both Overall MVP and Offensive MVP honors. He was ready to embark on his professional football career after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences.
